Scissor Lifts
Only qualified/authorized and competently trained personnel are allowed to operate aerial lifts!
Operators must be trained on the specific type/model they will be operating on the project site!

Never stand or climb on the rails of a lift – never!
Before Getting In The Lift:
Inspect your work area – make sure it’s safe to operate. Be aware of all the hazards in your work area
Read and understand the manual
Inspect your lift – make sure there’s no damage, safety devices are in place, there’s a fire extinguisher, etc.
The Do’s
- Attach the safety chain, or close the gate, immediately after entering a lift
- Keep your body inside the basket
- Avoid hazards including pinch points and trapping your body between the lift and solid objects
- Move the basket to where you need – don’t overreach the rails
- Keep the lift clear of electrical lines
- Make sure you’re on level/stable ground
- Follow the manufacturer’s restrictions and recommendations
- A fire extinguisher must be kept in the basket
- Maintain a safe distance from power lines
The Don’ts
- Never stand on the rails of a lift
- Never climb out of the basket over the rails
- Never stand on a bucket, ladder, or board spanning the rails in a lift! Your feet must remain firmly planted on the floor of the basket!
- Never overload the lift
- Never apply lateral forces to the lift – don’t use a scissor lift as a material hoist
